Reading eye loan move for Manchester United starlet Will Keane

The 22-year-old's progress at Old Trafford has been hampered by injury and Louis van Gaal is believed to be open to the possibility of loaning him out until next summer

Reading are lining up a loan move for Manchester United striker Will Keane, Goal understands.

Keane is well down the pecking order at Old Trafford and Louis van Gaal is considering loaning him out for the second half of the season.

The 22-year-old, who made his United debut against Blackburn in December 2011, saw his progress at Old Trafford hampered by a cruciate knee ligament injury while playing for England Under-19s in June 2012.

The injury sidelined Keane for 16 months and dealt his chances of establishing himself in the United first-team a major blow and afforded fellow youngster James Wilson a chance to leap ahead of him in Van Gaal's reckoning.

Keane had spells out on loan at Wigan and QPR last season, helping Harry Redknapp's side clinch promotion back to the Premier League last term.

A host of Championship clubs are understood to have enquired about taking Keane on loan, but Reading are believed to be at the head of the queue for his signature.

Reading boss Steve Clarke is desperate to bolster his attacking options after seeing Glenn Murray return to Crystal Palace following a successful loan spell at the Madejski Stadium earlier this season and he has made Keane his top target.

Keane could now join twin brother, Michael, in leaving United this month after the central defender made his loan switch to Burnley permanent last week.
