I seriously like Vidal and Chile are Copa America favourites - Maradona

The Argentina legend has waxed lyrical over the midfielder's box-to-box qualities and believes Chile will start the Copa America as favourites to win the tournament

Arturo Vidal has won himself a new admirer in the form of Argentina legend Diego Maradona, who says he "seriously likes" the Juventus and Chile star.

The midfielder will be one of the poster boys of the 2015 Copa America, hosted by Chile, and could well face Maradona's countrymen at some stage.

Vidal, 27, has overcome a serious knee injury that plagued him for much of 2014 to score six goals in 22 appearances in all competitions for Juventus this term and win the plaudits of one of football's all-time greats.

"Vidal is a player I seriously like," Maradona said on the Latin-American channel Telesur. 

"He is like a player from Boca Juniors who fights and has great courage from the minute he puts on the jersey. 

"I think Chile will be the favourites to win the Copa America with them hosting it. And don't forget they have [Alexis] Sanchez as well as Vidal and [Gary] Medel, they are very strong."

The 2015 Copa America kicks off on Thursday, June 11 when Vidal and Chile take on Ecuador in Group A.
